Growing local

Hullo team!

It's happening! I've organised my friendly local treeloppers to come this week and raze the vast majority of the garden and trees from our front garden area to begin it's transformation into the start of my Zone 1. I plan to spread the mulch from the trees removed over the space and layer it with cardboard and newspaper from our move, and let it soak in for a month or so.

As a result, I was thinking of having a working bee in June for anyone who is interested to assist me in laying out the garden bed design - my partner wants something aesthetically more pleasing than just a bunch of rectangles so I'm thinking of a large concentric circle design. Hopefully it shouldn't be very complicated, but it will take a bit of laying out. Anyone is welcome, even if all they can do is sit under the veranda and laugh at the rest of us.

If I can organise the materials we can even do a hive split of my native bees and raffle the new hive off to a lucky helper!

As thanks I'll of course be offering lunch, refreshments and your pick of any plants I already have you want to steal, especially some of the roses. For anyone who wasn't able to make it earlier in the year when we moved in I'll also take you on a bit of a tour. I don't think I can put a poll in to see what weekend would suit everyone best but comment below and we'll pick a date?

And now some photos of the space it's going in!

You could have a really cool design with a series of trapeziums, in the shape of a snake or a river, Yoorala gardens has a big wheel with 2 circle sets of beds. It looks great from the sky. Not a view you get to have often though. How about a progressive approach, diving spaces with some perennial bushes that would create wind breaks? You get to discover each part as you wander. OK my mind is wandering now...

Whereabouts will the working bee be held?

Life crazies make it hard for me to commit at this stage but I love the idea! Good luck
