Growing local

If you are quiet and turn your speaker volume up, you will hear our local magpie perform his horse whinny at the beginning of this clip. He's been doing this for over 5 years. Usually it's part of a little medley of five or six local sounds. I can't pick them all, but one is a wood duck and one is the horse whinny. The neighbour reckons he does a dog bark too.

Magpie whinny

The first time I heard it, I went out the front to see the horse, but could only see the magpie - very suspicious. I've heard him do it maybe 20 times in 5 years, but on this day, he did it 3 times without the other sounds. It's quite loud, but my recording skills on the tablet don't do it justice. He is somewhere in the photo frame too, but my video skills aren't up to the job.

Intriguing! He's obviously spent a lot of time down on the farm before coming to suburbia (if you are in suburbia).
