My garden is very often rich in fungal fruiting bodies. Sometimes they grow better than the vegetables.
This morning on my hunter gathering I realised I had something special among the fungi:a bona fide mushroom -- a field mushroom (Agaricus campestris).
What a delight!
My favorite mushy is the one that fruits forth from cow shit and my garden owns up to plenty of that.
Growing up and spending a lot of time at my relies' dairy farms in Victoria -- each May we'd go mushroom picking and then gorge ourselves on the harvest. Compared to blackberry bashing, mushrooming is usually a benign pastime if you pick right.
The snakes are asleep. No thorns. Just a chill in the air.
But my taxonomy may be rusty so if I partake of these delights and they prove other than what I imagined -- here's the forensic evidence.
Mycology is such a skilled art that you gotta be careful. But these beauties will be judged by their taste....assuming it's not too late by then.
You can have all your Swiss Browns and Buttons and exotica -- campestris are the best.
