Brisbane and surrounds in general are probably at the edge of the comfortable range for growing Garlic. So Autumn-Winter are the most likely times to plant cloves and expect a fair harvest. A few tips:
• Wait until the weather cools off before you plant, around mid to late March on current trends.

With the above-ground beds settled in and some plants growing reasonably well, time arrived to tweak the arrangements to allow more plants to climb comfortably.
One of the many surprises we found with the beds was that we did not allow enough room between them to walk around. Duh. The beds are just wide enough to make stretching over to plants growing in the back row almost impossible. One bed less and some walking space would have been good. WARNING!! Don't EVER taste a raw olive!!!! They are the most disgustingly bitter thing ever and they take the lining off the inside of your mouth (well so my husband says).

Aware of the liklihood there'll be a division of opinion on this one, but ...
Mice, exotic cockroaches, rats, cane toads and so on are regarded as pests. The simplest solution to dealing with them is to humanely kill them on the spot. This means an instant death, no injuries to linger from, no starvation to die slowly from. If you are going to do it, then do it and quick.

The December storms and subsequent fiiling of the rainwater tank, brought hope to my heat-stressed, thirsty backyard. But I shouldn't complain, as we've never run out of veges for the wok.

We’ve had a warm spring this year, and December being the first month of summer has been very hot for the first part, and very hot and humid for most if not all of the whole holiday period.

Just picked a few kilos of green Persimmons. This is a non-astringent seedless variety the name of which I have forgotten.
The tree is espaliered, one metre each side of the post, with wires about 500mm apart - not enough room horizontally and the wires are too far apart. The other trees which were espaliered at the same time (about 6 years ago) did not take kindly to that treatment. All of our computers got infected with viruses and then we maxed out our download limit reinstalling everything. My computer has been too slow to use for about 2 weeks - I was starting to suffer withdrawal! So apologies for not replying to anything. Each page was taking about 30s to load, it was just too much.
