Profile Information

About me:
Together with my partner Jamie we run Bloomfield's Farm, a 5-acre Land for Wildlife homestead in Jimboomba. The area, known to be in a “rain shadow”, receives a lot less average annual rainfall than the greater Brisbane region. We’re implementing a permaculture design whilst still working full-time jobs, with the aim to be off grid and more self-sufficient. Different regenerative planning and management techniques are applied.
There is an abundance of native trees and shrubs now compared to when we moved in, in March 2016. Different perennial growing systems, water harvesting earthworks, zero waste nursery/worm farm, a grey water garden, and wicking beds have been implemented. We also raise and harvest on-site our own ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens and pigs, and utilise hot and cold smokers. On the property are several native and European honeybee hives.
We run different workshops on the topic of self-sufficiency, facilitate external workshops and provide food growing one on one coaching and property consultations.

We host a popular volunteer program.
Our volunteer mornings are designed to teach you sustainabe growing methods and bring together like-minded people within the community. We provide lunch and a chance to see our gardens, animals and grow systems.

We host these volunteer mornings ever few weeks, if you can't make it to this one keep an eye out for the next one.

Good Afternoon Doreen, Welcome to Brisbane Local Foods (BLF). Your property sounds wonderful, if you would ever like to host a Garden Visit we would love to visit. I arrange the regular Garden Visits so please don't hesitate to contact me.

Here at the top of the page, you will find many GROUPS to join. One of these is the GARDEN VISITS, 2021 GARDEN VISITS CALENDAR I am sure you would enjoy visiting our member’s gardens. We have members who grow many kinds of Gardens, Permaculture, Aquaculture, Wicking Beds, Traditional and many more. The GV's are usually held once a month. At the GV's we share cuttings, plants, produce, seeds, knowledge as well as a good chat and a lovely Homemade Morning Teas.

We have many subjects of interest, if you have any questions, I am sure we would have a member or site available to answer that question. If you feel you are particularly adept in a field, you may like to add a new Group to our List or perhaps do a talk or demonstration at one of our GV. If a yes for the GV you might like to friend me, and we can see what we can do. We are always looking for new ideas.

You may like to go into your page and change the Pea Leaf Avatar for one of your own, it makes it a little more personal and as soon as we see your own Avatar we know who it is. Please enjoy BLF…..
