There are 2 colonies of them living under both sets of compost bins. They must just stay in the damp under the bins once the bins have been emptied. Then when there's next enough compost at the right stage for them, they come into the bins via the holes in the bottom and chomp their way through the contents. They leave a nice almost-humus if I can leave them there long enough usually from 1 to 2 years.
