Growing local

The frustrating wait is beginning to be over. We just harvested our first Vetiver clumps this season for division.

Don't go thinking we have plenty, because we could harvest only selectively depending on the number of tillers.

We'll divide these up and allocate to our bespoke orders and then review our potential stock before we open for business broadly.

But it is a great day...

Mine are nowhere near the thickness of your ones.  If I remember, I'll do a few photos tomorrow.

The more you trim  the clumps (to30cm) , the more tillers you get.

Divide at 10-15 tillers. Stagger it if you like. After the Summer rains you can wing it as the dry sets in.

Presently, Vetiver in our plantation are growing at 25cm per week. You want to make the most of the verdant growing season which fades out in late April. Earlier if shade is involved. Better to get more plants going before the cool slow down.

The bigger your clump the more effort you need to dig it up. Vetiver is all about numbers.

I am about to do my second chop and drop for mulch.  I'm going to wait another year to divide.  Oh, and congrats.
