I think it depends on so many things. Variety. Soil. Weather. I've had great successes some years and dismal failures others. It will take many years to figure out the rhythm.

Yes corn is a very hungry plant, one reason its planted so close this year is that I preplanted in pots 2 seeds each & everyone germinated - so couldnt waste any!

I like the way you plant so densely Jane. I get a lot of comment about how densely I plant mine, but your patch shows I could plant them even closer. I think they give each other support when planted closely for one thing. The soil does need to be good though.

My Sweetcorn is over 6ft tall, the seed has been saved in C Qld for many years, the name unknown, but its sweet & should produce two cobs per plant.
