AKA Snake Gourd (Trichosanthes cucumerina var. anguina:)
My favorite gourd to eat. I also love its delicate white flowers and the excitement you get from leaving gourds on the vine so that the fruit turns bright red.
Like devil's horns!
If Africa they use that red flesh like tomatoes.
But eat It green like these specimens I just picked.
Tastes like a cucumber but with a firmer texture, narrower flesh and more readily cooked in stews, curries, soups and stir fries. Not bitter at all.
Like most gourds, Snake Gourds have a great nutrition profile and are filling without being a high carb hit.
We ate these in a Pakistani meat curry (Lauki gosht) tweaked with Sri Lankan additions and Bottle Gourd.
next time, I'll be making a Snake Gourd Salad.

GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
