  • We are gradually building up berms on the lower side in a horse shoe shape around fruit trees which weren't already in a garden bed.  Trapping more rain and to eventually join these trees into an existing garden. Just using chop and drop prunings covered with grass clipping and planting the berms with herbs, vegies or flowers.   More than a decade ago drainage was more of a concern, so the trees were mounded up, but these last few years lack of rain and hotter weather is a much bigger issue.  When it did flood the yard had dried out in no time, making us learn ways to keep some of it in the garden beds.
