About me:

I only recently got into growing things in my teeny backyard, so have a lot to learn.

I am currently involved with the following community gardens and groups:

None, unfortunately I work full time so haven't found a group nearby I can devote enough time to.

I am interested in:

Growing food in my backyard and potentially keeping native bees.

I can offer (you can't offer too much or too little - we don't mind)

Community Involvement, Other, None/Unsure

What I am looking for:

Working Bee?

Hullo team!

It's happening! I've organised my friendly local treeloppers to come this week and raze the vast majority of the garden and trees from our front garden area to begin it's transformation into the start of my Zone 1. I plan to…

Hello friends, long time no see!

I’ve been busy these last months searching for a new house, and it seems like I’ve found the perfect one. We are selling up to secure it, and as such there’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to raid…

The limits of bathtub gardening?

Hey team!

As many of you may already know, I'm a big fan of planting in old bathtubs. Due to constraints at our home (size, storm drains, doggo, etc) everything I do needs to be raised. I was thinking of planting a few small trees in my…

  • Hi Sid,

Sorry I have been away before and after Christmas so haven't been able to get to a computer to accept your offer. I am more than happy to have you as my Gardening Friend. Happy New ear!! Will see you in 2020....  Dianne

  • Hi Sid, the BLF regulars have posted good advice as usual, however they have humbly forgotten about themselves :)

For Brisbane gardening, I would try brisbanelocalfood, just alone for the diversity of direction you gain from this 10 year + compilation of info.

I would not use ning's search engine when looking for something specific. I have found google to be a better search engine for the site... examples below...

In the google search type :

    site:brisbanelocalfood.ning.com garden preparation

    site:brisbanelocalfood.ning.com pepino

Even throw a few regular posters' names in, some have been posting blogs, comments, pictures and videos for years.

    site:brisbanelocalfood.ning.com Dianne

In google, change the 'All' option and to 'Images' and get BLF picture results as in the example below.

Sometimes a little more work, however the results can be diversely rich.

  • Good Morning Sid, Welcome to Brisbane Local Foods (BLF).

Here at the top of the page, you will find many GROUPS to join. One of these is the GARDEN VISITS, 2018 GARDEN VISITS CALENDAR. We have a Garden Visit on this Saturday if you would like to come along.I am sure you would enjoy visiting our member’s gardens. We have members who grow many different kinds of Gardens, Permaculture, Aquaculture, Wicking Beds, Traditional and many more. The GV's are usually held once a month. At the GV's we share cuttings, plants, produce, seeds, knowledge as well as a good chat and a lovely Homemade Morning Teas.

We have many subjects of interest, if you have any questions I am sure we would have a member or site available to answer that question. If you feel you are particularly adept in a field you may like to add a new Group to our List or perhaps do a talk or demonstration at one of our GV. If a yes for the GV you might like to friend me and we can see what we can do. We are always looking for new ideas.

You may like to go into your page and change the Pea Leaf Avatar for one of your own, it makes it a little more personal and as soon as we see your own Avatar we know who it is. Please enjoy BLF…..

  • Welcome to the site Sid.
