About

About me:

I'm a man approaching "middle age", married with three children 18-12 and we've been living in McDowall for about 14 years and just love all things garden. I am self employed as a Wall and Floor Tiler, which just seems to get in the way of my gardening! Over the last 4 years or so, I have enjoyed experimenting with turning my usable space into a productive urban farm. It is a constant work I progress and with the busy pace of life things often get neglected. When I'm not in the garden, you might find me down at one of the local Bunnings rescuing various plants that they have drastically reduced, I love picking up a bargain and finding a place for it in my garden. Just call me "The Bunnings Beggar". I have a particular interest in strange, rare and unusual plants, and especially enjoy learning more about herbalism and the medicinal/health benefits of the plants around us.

I am interested in:

Aquaponics: Currently running a 3 bed IBC CHOP system with around 35 Jade Perch. Also a few random water gardens about the place. Fruit Trees I am currently growing (mostly in pots): Imperial mandarin; Emperor Mandarin; Navel Orange; Blood Orange; Grapefruit Ruby Red; Cara Cara Blood Navel; Meyer Lemon; Eureka Lemon; West Indian Lime; Tahitian Lime; Cherry Guava; Australian Peanut Tree; Jaboticaba; Panama Berry; Blueberry; Mulberry Black; Mulberry White; Avocado; White Sapote; Pecan. Chickens: We currently have 5 chickens, (Tiny, Misty, Daisy, Speckles and Daffodil - she's a bit of a vicious "man eater". Quail: We've recently acquired some quail and learning all about them on the run. Composting and worm farming. I also breed live meal worms, though these have been very neglected, yet they continue to survive. Plant propagation is another interest of mine. Composting, worm farming. Sourcing and growing more unusual plants, particularly various old world and medicinal herbs. I'm always looking for that next new and exciting plant to add to the garden.

I can offer (you can't offer too much or too little - we don't mind)

Plants and Produce, Garden Materials, Gardening Help

What I am looking for:

Information, Products and/or Services, Training and Consultancy, Events, Community Involvement

Location

  • Good Evening Matthew, Welcome to Brisbane Local Foods (BLF).

Here at the top of the page, you will find many GROUPS to join. One is the GARDEN VISITS, 2017 GARDEN VISITS CALENDAR here. I am sure you would enjoy visiting our member’s gardens. We have members who grow many different kinds of Gardens, Permaculture, Aquaculture, Wicking Beds, Traditional and many more. The GV's are usually held once a month. At the GV's we share cuttings, plants, produce, seeds, knowledge as well as a good chat and a lovely Homemade Morning Teas.

We have many subjects of interest, if you have any questions I am sure we would have a member or site available to answer that question.

You may like to go into your page and change the Pea Leaf Avatar for one of your own, it makes it a little more personal and as soon as we see your own Avatar we know who it is. Please enjoy BLF…..
