We have a 1000L IBC with the top cut out of it.  Got it free - but it has held chemicals so too suspect to keep fish in.  We use it for mobile irrigation.

Sorry if this idea has been mentioned earlier.  I can't keep up with the pace of this discussion!

The IBCs are the 1000 litre fish tanks. It doesn't matter about the grow beds at the moment.  They just need to be a 30cm deep, lidless container that is shapped in such a way that you can reach the centre.

Our terminology is confusing each other.  Let's just start with the fish tank Becky.  What are you going to use for that?  A 600 litre tank will grow you around 30 fish.  A 1000 litre will expand you to somewhere between 50 and 100.  (The tank gets more stable as they get bigger.)

Becky, is it practical for you to start small and add extra IBCs as your expertise and pocket allow?

Thanks Lissa.

Becky, I've also been checking on the IBC 1000 litre foodgrade tanks.  Gumtree has them for $150 un-used.  They look great and I know people are using them - I just worry about how you harvest the fish with such a tiny access point. I'll keep working on it.

Works fine for me Elaine, although I was getting a lot of "service unavailable" for internal links.  Maybe they went broke or something?

Comment by Elaine de Saxe on January 15, 2013 at 22:05

Did it work for you Andrew? I keep getting 'Service Unavailable' ... my end or theirs?

Comment by Andrew Cumberland on January 15, 2013 at 21:58

Lets try again:  Worth a look!

(Thanks Elaine!)
