Hi all , I have many pidgeon peas I let dry and have harvested., just wanted to know if any one has used these as a supplementary feed for jap quail and chooks and if its safe to do so .Can they be easily, succesfully ground up in a hand corn grinder .Also is boiled rice safe to feed quail .
Our chooks love pigeon peas. I'm sure they are a safe, staple food in many places. We planted them for us, but never quite got into poocessing them. I just semi-crush the dry pods and the chooks do the rest. I feel they might be better food than the bought stuff.
I use pigeon pea as a treat for my chooks - in the dry pods chooks seem to like picking them out. Have a look on Feedipedia http://www.feedipedia.org/ for more information about quails and chickens.
