Brisbane Local Food

Growing local

Just wondering how to tell when to pick jaboticabas. I left mine until they came off the tree easily but they were quite soft and had started to ferment. I pulled on them when they were just going soft but didnt seem to come off.

Hi Doug. The fruit should be black and glossy and fall off into your hand. The time between setting fruit and ripening is quite fast see JABOTICABA BLOG for some idea of times.

If they are fermenting they have been left too long.

Thanks Lissa will try to get them earlier on my next lot.
