Event Description

Sustainability Day - community solutions to global problems.

Saturday 15th August 10am to 3pm

Hillbrook Anglican School, 35 Hurdcotte St, Enoggera

This year’s event, the 4th, will be held on Saturday, August 15 2015 from 10am – 3pm and organisers expect it will again attract thousands of people from Queensland’s South East corner.

Sustainability Day features expert guest speakers on sustainability and practical demonstrations on how to make a difference (running all day), these include a whole range of topics – sustainable gardening practices, growing veges, keeping bees & chooks, making compost and slow food to name a few.

Local community groups and organisations featuring green innovations and practices are showcased, along with market and food stalls selling locally grown/sourced/home cooked food served in an eco-manner.

A recycling initiative has also been an important feature of past Sustainability Days, all attending the events were invited to bring any unwanted e-waste such as old computers, printers, CRT/LCD monitors and com- puter peripherals along on the day.

A photographic competition on nature themes has attracted over 200 entries from within the school community in past years. Hillbrook’s students have provided a feast of musical entertainment and this coupled with fun events makes it a great free day out for families.

Sustainability Day is run by Hillbrook parents for the wider community. It is hoped that people attending Sustainability Day will leave the event inspired and armed with practical ideas and products they can incorporate into their everyday life to help reduce their carbon footprint.
