It is nice to be related to them Elaine :) Good people who improved the world around them.

Duh - senior moment. I know that name Romeo Lahey (who could forget?) they were from a similar area to the O'Reilly's I am confusing both families. It's still a proud heritage :-)

Here's a bit more about the Lahey family.

Comment by Lissa on September 24, 2016 at 5:31

It was Bernard O'Reilly who found the crashed plane. Perhaps the Laheys helped after, I don't know. They were timber cutters in the Canungra area and Romeo Lahey (Grandfathers cousin) was a conservationist involved in establishment of Lamington National Park.

His sister Vida Lahey was a well known artist.

I never met any of them - including my grandfather.

Same family of Lahey's as those on another mountain forgotten its name now, the people who in the 30s found the Stinson wreck?

Pleased you enjoyed yourself and fancy seeing your Aunt. Hope the meals were good at St Bernard's, we are having Christmas Dinner there this year, and staying a few nights at Witches Falls Cottages.

We had a wonderful day on Mt Tamborine including lunch at St Bernards. Stunned to run into my Aunt Alicia at the garden we visited - she's one of the Lahey's that Lahey Rd is named after.

Enjoy yourself Lissa, just love it up there and the gardens are beautiful, the cooler temps make for beautiful displays of many flowers that are harder to grow in Brisbane. You lucky lady!!!!

Wish me luck - driving a bus load of our beautiful members up to see these gardens to day (drive by two and walk in one) and then lunch on the mountain, before driving them all home again. And then drive myself almost an hour back to Strathpine.

Will be stuffed at the end of it all lol.
