Join us for a hands-on morning digging in the dirt and learning all there is to know about growing potatoes and garlic here in South East Queensland. Gary Hands from Kookaburra Organics is sharing his wealth of knowledge and demonstrating how easy it is to grow spuds.

Have you ever wondered about the best to plant a potato? Have you wondered when to harvest your garlic. Want to learn in a hands on environment to understand the process from start to finish.

We invite you to attend this workshop to get the best potato and garlic crops and learn in a relaxed and fun environment.

In this workshop you will learn all about:

  • Choosing the right potatoes and garlic
  • Preparing the soil
  • How to plant potatoes
  • How to plant garlic
  • Harvesting potatoes
  • Maintenance for both potatoes and garlic
  • Mulch
  • Pest control

This is a hands-on workshop, so bring your gardening gloves and prepare to get messy.

You will leave this workshop with:

The knowledge to grow your own potatoes and garlic. You’ll also have a new appreciation of how easy it is to grow your own fresh food as the taste is unbeatable.

About your teacher:

Gary Hands has been farming in the area for ten years and operates Kookaburra Organics which is an organic market garden with a home delivery service.  Gary has farmed from Queensland to Victoria and even Tasmania, understanding the importance on climate in any garden and preparing it for any situation. His market garden is grown in harmony with the birds & bees and is certified organic.


What to bring:

Bring a pen and notepad, hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and long sleeved shirt. We’ll provide everything else.

This course will be held at the Huthwaite Farm in Hunchy – which is ten minutes away from both Palmwoods and Montville. On confirmation of booking the address will be sent to you.

This workshop will start at 9am and go until 12pm at Huthwaite Farm. The farm address will be sent on confirmation of payment we are ten minutes away from both Palmwoods and Montville.

GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
