Natural Sequence Farming, with Bob Cannard

One Hour, Fifteen minutes long.
It's always difficult to put a name to something, so I've called this what the guy who's doing the talking calls it.
Great stuff in here. Most don't have big properties to play around with, however you can translate plenty of points made in this video to your own gardens, observations, experiences and direction.

He doesn't seem to worry about some crop losses and I guess that he learns more each time something goes wrong.

He emphasises timing and observation as being critical... When to give the weeds a 'haircut' and let the crop come through. He talked (in another video I think) about losses of whole crops due to getting the timing wrong so his success is definitely built on years of experience.

It's much closer to nature as the Permie guys observed and practiced. Working with weeds needs to be done with knowledge and experience and not just allowing the weeds to do all their own things but to do them to some kind of system we have devised. Years of practice is my answer to that one!

It's hard to get your head around isn't it - encouraging, let alone allowing, the weeds to grow between the crop plants. I did a farm visit up the coast some years back and they did the same things. Looks messy but works well obviously.

Man, can that guy talk! Great info, worth listening to again to take down some of his more important points. I love it that the Leeks come out clean just by growing with the weeds! Point is that the weeds are managed not just allowed to run riot.

I would love to intern there.. I have tried to enthuse my children so that I could live vicariously through them but so far no good! I will be in San Francisco in three weeks and hoped to get up to Petaluma where his farm is but don't have enough time. Instead, my friend and I are going to have lunch at Chez Panisse which is the restaurant he supplies. Very excited to taste his produce.

It makes a lot of sense when Bob name-drops his age old friend's name, Dr Elaine... with his natural biota collecting philosophy and love for aerobic digesters. 

I couldn't help but notice many separate themes and multiple themes talked and practiced by BLFers which Bob re-confirms and articulates in that Cannard no mucking about style.
