I'll do some American BBQ ribs in it soon Elaine. You use the oven griller for the last 10 minutes. Wait for that clip, and maybe a few more before you judge. So far, I am happy, but Andy can be a picky boy. My clips are always honest.
I got mine for $70 last weekend from Gumtree.
You've piqued my curiosity! Put in a snipe for one on eBay.
Loving it Elaine! It's actually not that different to a slow cooker in design... except it works at higher temp and locks the steam in completely (almost). If you put a slow cooker on high, put in a bit of butter and then put onions in, you have the saute function (albeit a slow version). They seem to have applied a bit of brain power to the ways you can use it, aside from as a very fast stew machine. It's fascinating.
Andy yours sound more like one of those over-priced things which blow up. Forget the name but they do everything except sing 'God Save the Queen'. Anyway - it sounds like a pressure cooker on steroids. AND it sounds as though you are having a great deal of fun with it!
It certainly locks in the flavours, and does things that I would never have thought of, like BBQ ribs! Cook in pressure cooker for 15 minutes, coat in homemade BBQ sauce and grill a few minutes each side. I've been amazed at the professional cooks showing recipes on Youtube.
Ah! The only kitchen tool you may need is a pressure cooker. My PC is the Portuguese cooker made by Silampos.(LINK) Great value, fool proof without gadgetry. I also bought a second hand cooker at first but now that I have my Silampos many nights are pressure cooker nights. Irony being that they make fast food that is nutritionally great. As for safety concerns -- the new mode of PC are as safe as houses. There are 2 kinds of cooks in this world: pressure cooking people and those who don't . I'm a PC evangelist. It will change your lifestyle. It has mine.
