hi Donna, you must have a different sprouter to me. Mine is in levels and drains to a tray at the bottom. I have had success using just a normal jar with cloth over the top. I soak in warm (not hot) water overnight, then drain water and rinse and drain every morning and night till they are ready.

and marigolds too - apparently their effect lasts for a few years but you need dense cropping for effect.

Hi Donna, I've just been doing a bit of reading on companion planting (procrastinating for exam study!) and found that Dahlias repel nematodes - thought it might help out your garden.

Worm farms are great, Donna. Just use a couple of polystyrene boxes - one on top of the other. The top one contains your worms and their food. The bottom box collects the worm juice that you can dilute in water and use on your garden. I have composting worms at the Farm School where I work in Currumbin Valley. They are $35 for a bucket full. However I am coming back to Brisbane at the end of June or early July. If you want to wait until I am settled somewhere you are welcome to have some of my worms out of my worm farm.

Mmm, disquieting, didn't know the Ning sites were saleable. Anyway, thank you for telling me, I'll keep an eye out. I'm hoping to get to the seed savers meeting at Gumdale (gotta sort that toll thingy before getting on the Gateway) and should have a few bits and bobs to swap. Regardless, would like to meet some more vege gardeners! - Elaine

Donna I can make you a site administrator if you like - this might give you more options for following activity. Do you want to?

I always think of potash (= high in potassium) as the fruiting element. for anything with big fruit - like bananas, pumpkins, pawpaw etc
i'm going to burn some of that wattle we're cutting down and bury the flames to make charcoal and then use the charcoal and ash around the place. that will make sure the borer cop it too hopefully

thanks D. Looks like the whole garden is about 5.5 ( I told you it's been neglected!) so I'm out there with more dolomite first thing

Hi Donna, I was wondering if you could fill me in a bit on sweet potatoes - did you do anything to get tubers, and how long did you have to wait to get them? Mine are currently taking over my entire vegie patch, and producing some nice flowers for me too to make sure I don't cut it out.

Hi Donna,
Thanks for your email. I work in the city but pass by the Valley on my bike commute in to work. Maybe we could catch up for a coffee before you start work. My work hours are very flexible so I'll let you pick the time. I'll try and remember to bring you some of my harvested parsley seed.

cheers, Rolf

Dear Donna,
If you have any spare seed heads for processing from the garden I would love to have some for the next seed saving workshop that I'm doing on April the 18th. Leftovers can come back into your seed bank all pacvkaged up and labelled. I can come and collect at Easter. Sounds like you might want to organise a trip to our community gardens at Yandina where we specialise in growing tropical vegetables.

Hi Donna
My husband's friend George Allen is the president of the fruit club. His phone number is 33903722. Although my husband & I are both members of the club, I cant make the meetings, so he brings home the info & we grow the fruit. It is a wonderful club and you have a lot of opportunities to access fruit plants free or to purchase at a very reasonable rate. The members are a very friendly bunch. Meetings on 2nd Wed of Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec, at the Peace Hall, Windsor and field trips on the months between. Enjoy
