Growing local

The first tail belongs to a chicken.

Most days, around 4 pm, I give one of my girls a nurse and cuddle for a few minutes in the back yard.  I'm kicking back relaxing and find that petting a chook is quite good for the stress levels.  The girls seem to like it too.

Today however, Coral was really agitated. I asked her, "What's up Coral?  Daddy always give you a cuddle, silly girl."  She just got more agitated which is really out of character for my girls.

So I got a bit cross.  "Sit still. You know you have to have your cuddle."

And, that was when she opened her bowels over my shirt and shorts.  Awww man.  Next time I won't just assume she is being naughty.

The second is a fish tail.

One of my sons told me proudly he had the indoor aquaponics system I built him working again.  "Great stuff mate!"

A week later he rang to say the lettuces he'd planted had all died.  So I said, "What are you using to power the plants?"

He replied, "Electricity."

"No.  What are you using to provide nutrients to the plants?"

He says, "Water."

*sigh*  I decide to keep it simple.  "What fish do you have in the tank?"

Answer:  "Fish??"

It's actually pretty easy once it's established Cheryl.  The setup can be expensive.  There's also so things that I'd do very differently if I did it again.

Florence - I don't have photos but I have a video of the build if that helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx4ahaPsMew&list=UUvIO35nR6le1x...

Love the fish story but must admit if I wasn't a member of this group and learned so much from everyone those may have been my comments = lol.    Still not sure about how to set up and manage aquaponics

Love it - Always good for a giggle.  Though I am a bit concerned about your sons aptitude for gardening :) Maybe you should have just started him off with the idea that "plants need nutrients to grow" before graduating him to the much more complicated "fish can provide those nutrients".
