Growing local

Get together at Apex Park Brighton this Sunday 3-6-2012 at 9:30am

Our fruitful suburbs group is a loose knit community group.

We meet monthly with whoever comes bringing any excess produce from their garden to swap with others.

For example we've had fruit, veg, herbs, spices, seeds, seedlings, plants, eggs, or product made from the produce such as marmalade, jam, pickle, infused oil, cordial etc.

If you don't have anything to swap still come and get to know us. The swap of local gardening knowledge is invaluable.

There is usually some water boiling and a dash of milk if you want a cuppa, good idea to BYO mug and herbal infusion, teabag or coffee.

Getting together can extend the harvest period for all of us when, for instance at this time of year, someone brings an early season harvest of citrus while others are still waiting as theirs are harvested later in the season.

Everyone is welcome, we've had people come from as far away as the Sunshine Coast.

When you come, if you want, we can set you up on the very low volume email list and you'll get a reminder the week before we meet.

Hi Susanne

I've put it up as an event listing, and sent it out - a couple of questions have been posted. Are you able to answer them?

Here is the link to the event listing: http://brisbanelocalfood.ning.com/events/fruitful-suburbs-prod-swap

cheers Scarlett

Well, weather permitting ... sounds as though Sunday could be quite wet, we'll see on the day. Is the meeting spot in a shelter? Do we bring our own chairs? Any way to check if it's still on before we drive around 60 km out of our way?

Sounds fascinating - we've never been to anything like that! We'll be there.
