Growing local

I regularly make my own potting mix at home to save money and control what my plants are growing in. I had a lot of trouble with bagged mixes (although I now use Searles when I need a commercial mix).  I used to waste a lot of time adding nutrients every time I potted up a plant so do this now when I make the mix. I get good results so thought I'd share what I do, but I'd love to know what recipes others use too.

If you'd like to try it out, you can get the step-by-step instructions here. I've listed out the ingredients I use and why I choose them (the roles they play in the mix); common problems with commercial mixes; and a few tips from making lots of mistakes! (let's call them learning experiences)

I've also found it is pretty quick to revitalise and reuse old potting mix, plus it saves money.

Does anyone have a favourite potting mix recipe that works well for them?
