Phil's question re how long from flower to fruit made me realise I had paid little attention to this in the past.

This will be a pictorial day to day following of flower to fruit. I've chosen the flower that bloomed just outside my front door as it's easiest to remember to photograph each day. Hopefully it's pollinated lol!

29.12.15 Day one - flower

31.12.15 Day three - the fruiting part of the plant is partly obscured by some branch (do we call it a branch of DF??). I'll have to wade into the mess of bamboo and cut things back so I can get a better view as it grows.

01.01.2016 Day four - Happy New Year!! So much for me standing in the same spot Phil lol. This is a better angle to check the development of any fruit.

What a job to get at it! Tried the long handled secateurs but in the end had to wade through the bamboo with my leather beekeeping gloves on for protection. But worth of the biggest I have grown. And there are plenty more flowers developing.

And crop from out the back yard....the little one on the left you can see is wrinkled and has been left on the plant too long. They should be glossy pink/red with perky green spines.

I am a very happy DF eater :D

Can't find the original comment to quote exactly but Pat Pierce up in Rockhampton let's the fruit mature for five days before picking for maximum sweetness.

Ah! Elaine, maybe mine are the red fleshed, I never labelled them. There is hope.

Lissa, I don't think they are edible, and they do smell like garlic, I thought they may have some repellent effects, and I have seen them covered in flowers that age to 3 shades. Just pleasing to the eye.

I just don't have any of the red fleshed growing. I know you gave me some bits and I remember where I put them in the garden but they have been gone for some time. Perhaps a bit tetchy-er.

Serious envy ;-) Did you find the white-fleshed was really sweet? Mine seem to take double the time for the red-fleshed and were quite tart if picked too soon.

Ah I don't feed my DF. They grow in the worst ground in my yard. Completely ignored and neglected. They just do their thang without me interfering.

Love the Garlic Vine plant! Is it edible somehow? Very beautiful.

I just don't have your touch, Lissa.   I think that they look a bit stunted, but that happens when you don't feed them a lot.  I would have thought that the flower would have dried a bit and the fruit swelled up a bit.   I am glad you have showed others how good it can feel to grow your own. But I am very happy with my first garlic vine flower.

There must be something wrong with my iphone camera as my didn't come out as good as yours. Boo Hoo!The first photo was on the shady side of fence and second photo on my sunnry side of the fence.  What do you think, it's gotta be the camera.

The little Easyshare has an anti shake setting on it which makes a huge difference.

The fruitful end is still green, a good sign.
