Growing local

Has been a short while (over 12 months :/ ) since my last post so thought I would do a bit of a catch up..
The front yard has had a few different garden beds set up in it now.. I played around with hay bale beds out there during the cooler months but am finding it a bit hard to keep them hydrated at the moment.. Some have been pulled down & used in a no dig spud bed already with some of the others destaned to become part of a no dig wicking bed trial in the near future..
Behind the front fence we now have 8 x ½ IBC wicking beds..
In the first 2 I have asparagus with a few broccoli that are being let go to seed.. Bed # 3 has Aztec corn & bush cucumbers.. Bed #4 has yacon & mini lee watermelon.. Bed #5 is our youngest daughters bed that is a mix of sunflower, beans, rock melon, carrots & marigolds.. Bed #6 have more yacon with  star & moon watermelon.. Bed #7 has ginger & Bed #8 will have turmeric as soon as it's ready to go in.. You can just see one of the old hay bale beds to the right behind the trailer there.. It only has a broccoli that is going to seed in it at the moment..

Out the back the garden is going well..
I have a couple of clips to bring interested people up to speed.. The first is a garden walk through from a week or so ago..

Did manage to cover a few sections of the patch & the aquaponics with some shade cloth yesterday.. Still have a few lose ends to tidy up but hope to have the bulk of out tomatoes & capsicums planted by tomorrow night..

The second clip is of the aquaponics..

Have finished removing the wicking bed for the aquaponics expansion & should be out there now filling in the hole left with soil but might wait for some shade to come over first.. The soil will be coming from the area where the RAS fish farm will be going in..

Shall leave it there methinks but will try to post more regular updates from now on...
Cheers :)

Hi Rob. We loved the videos on chicken feeder and drinker. In fact we stocked up on all the parts today. Just could not find the nipple drippers. I was just wondering if you might still have some spare you could sell/send us or I could collect if you're on the northside of Brisbane. Thanks Valerie.

Hi Elaine... I had to order them through Town & Country out here at Ipswich.. $18 each but work really well :) I am sure that I have seen Tomcat mouse traps at Bunnings but they don't do rat traps anymore for some reason..

Thanks Steve.. Has been fun trying to sort it all out.. Trying to fit the RAS system into the hoop house has proven to be a squeeze :/ Back to it today & hope to have it sorted by Sunday..

Thanks Lissa, it all keep me fairly busy :)

Videos!! Wonderful videos!!

Love the caulis - I haven't been able to grow good caulis the last two seasons. Great greenhouse. Great rat trap. Your aquaponics are impressive and the plants grown better than any others I've personally seen in these set ups.
