Donna's Garden - December 2010

Well it has been the rainiest December in history and everyone is getting very sick of it.  My yard is very wet and you squelch wherever you walk... unless it is mud then you slide.  The chicken pen is a slurry and a fair few spots are underwater.  Lavendar looks especially bedraggled compared to the others.

I'm worried that if the rain doesn't stop soon some of the fruit trees will end up dieing from being waterlogged but nothing has succumbed yet although the new…

Starting over (kind of)

I’ve never blogged before. I figure it might be a good way to keep track of what I’m doing with my veggie beds each season, since I seem to be rubbish at keeping notes as I go. I love my vegie garden :)

My new vegie garden is AMAZING! All the rain and the awesomely furtile soil has allowed the seeds and plants to grow like triffods (but without the funny sound and thankfully they don't leave the garden to kill people).

My corn and amaranth is chest high - oh and the amaranth tastes good (a bit like silverbeet but better). The NZ spinach I got from the West End community garden is flourishing and huge! My lettuce, rocket, tatsoi and bok choi are all growing so well. I have 4…

Rain, garlic, cucumbers & bees.

December 4th & its rained every day, we've had 60mm+ in four days but not nearly as much as other areas. Never known such a wet spring ,record rain for Aug,Sept & Oct, have had to re think the gardening as its normally hot & dry with veg browing off.


Garlic not behaving normally, planted in March & usually dies off Oct/Nov, only small bulbs but OK, this year the plants have not formed bulbs, infact they are like small leeks, with all the growth in the stem…
