Red Dacca Bananas

Saw this banana on a Facebook post recently and would really like try and grow one. I contacted a couple of suppliers for clarification on the restrictions for growing bananas. One company got back to me and told me "No I couldn't grow it in Brisbane" but another said if I contacted DAFF and got a permit which I should be able to get then it wouldn't be a problem.

Has anyone had any experience with this variety? I am going to call DAFF tomorrow and find out if I can get a…

Edamame

Joseph shared some Edamame seed with me some months back. After the bit of rain yesterday I've moved the compost pile into the middle bed and planted the seed up one end in the bottom-of-the-pile, worm casting rich soil.

Very curious about these - I've never eaten them but the blurb on the net makes…

Garden Update

I'm a bit overdue for some imput to this website so i thought i'd keep you posted with my going ons. I built my daughter a play ground with has somewhat consumed most of my time lately. Not really anything to do with gardening but explains my absence! Those who attended my garden visit would possibly remember that whole area was filled with 10 cubic metres of dirt. Previous to that it was a slanted area filled with palm trees.

From this...…

Random Update Stardate: 13.10.2013: About That Pizza Oven.

So it came to pass.... after 5 long years, Andy decides to get that pizza oven running!  It took a fair bit of trial and error: three hours of far too little flame, lots of smoke, an hour of far too much flame, and finally some quite good pizza.

You know it is too hot when:…

Growing Bananas at Home

The DPI (now called DAFF) has some definite information about what varieties of Bananas are legal to grow in a non-commercial planting. Please note that Cavendish (aka Williams) are NOT legal to grow in the home garden. That has been mentioned before on this Forum. This is the link to that information. I am not going to dob in anyone who is growing them,…

Andy's Regular Program Part II - Garden Updates

A friend let me know the old blog of the same name was getting so big that it took forever to download the pix.  So, I've decided to split it, for the sake of usability.  (Remember - you can just read from the top for the newer updates.)

Plants - Where to grow them and Compost tea (6.10.13)

This is a quick recording, mostly for me to refer back to later.

Basil grows best in the aquaponics bed, then in soil (quite a way behind) and worst of all…

Been a while :/

Has been a short while (over 12 months :/ ) since my last post so thought I would do a bit of a catch up..

The front yard has had a few different garden beds set up in it now.. I played around with hay bale beds out there during the cooler months but am finding it a bit hard to keep them hydrated at the moment.. Some have been pulled down & used in a no dig spud bed already with some of the others destaned to become part of a no dig wicking bed trial in the near…
