I have been busy pottering around in my garden and am starting to finally see some harvests and a decrease in my weekly veggie shop. I had a wonderful day today out at the farm. We drove up last night after work (have learnt from experience that there is no point leaving before 6.30 pm) and made it to our block at 8:50pm Just in time for Fran and I to plonk ourselves down with a glass of wine and our phones to read and unwind after a busy week. Since I run out of my regular supply of home made fermented chili paste more than my menu tolerates, I started planting chili bushes that were hotter than my usual cultivation -- in the hope I'd use less.
With my ferment still in the crock I began picking from the chili bushes to go into my dishes neat.

A feature I love about my outback is the system of aerials and ladders that support climbers of any type I plant.
In true polycultural bent I can run a climber UP almost anywhere and mix it with other plants at its base.
When finished with, climber stems and leaves make for good mulch, but always trim them for obedience.…Continue

My summer hibernation is now over, the weather is so much kinder, and I am able to get about outside without frying in the horrible hot sun. The jobs to do outside are many and varied but at least I have some enthusiasm back, which enables me to get stuck in.

I have pumpkins coming in now (taking up a lot of room). I've planted spuds out too. Lettuce seeds are growing but I'm not sure how valuable they'll be in winter - pesto sounds good. Silverbeet are also doing well on the north.
