Thanks Elaine for the advice. When they were seedlings we had them covered but as they have gotten bigger the white cabbage moth seems to have left them alone. So fingers crossed!

A Couple of weeks later

I had an interesting day fixing a string trellis for the golden snow peas which are growing tall, faster than I expected, transplanted some tomato seedlings into 10 cm plots, planted more bean seeds and planted out some pattypan squash plants and some lettuce seedlings. I finally trimmed back to the ground the very bitter tommy toe ( it has bok choi and lettuce nearby so can't rip out completely). Some of the lettuce has bolted already which is also frustrating - it's not that hot yet…

Tabula rasa Spring in The Gap

Well the last few months have been somewhat challenging in my personal life with an emergency trip back home and coming back to a rather sad garden or rather what was left of it. The seedling I had planted before I left did not make it through the mini drought and cold snap and the chooks got the best of what was growing.

I was just about to give up when my husband gave me a nudge. That and a garden visit is all I needed really. Just as well it is spring. Time the clear the beds and…

Garden Mappery

Since I was out and about and outback, I decided to give into impulse and map the garden beds.It frustrates me that a photo doesn't take in the overall. Now with a simple template I can sketch out a plantation planting plan whenever I want.

Looking at the layout I think I can fit in  another citrus next to the lemon and I'd like to squeeze in another fig…

My Garden September 2014

Hi everyone. I'm a long time lurker and have finally joined. I guess I mainly keen to document my gardening experiences for my own future reference. I've been a sporadic gardener all my adult life - currently I will have a year or so of regular gardening then one of my other interests take over. Then my garden gets weed- overtaken until my out of town in-laws come and visit and rescue me from the jungle. The only permanent features of my garden have been some basic herbs, six chickens, a…

Andy's Garden Update - Citrus - Stardate: 03092014

2015 Update:

The Lemon, Lemonade and Mandarin look like they wanna make lots of babies. I'm happy about that. It looks like this is the time of year for citrus, Lemonade particularly.

So, the corn crop went in yesterday. All good.

Cherry tomatoes are finally starting to produce some fruit again.  Cabbage getting ready. Jeez, even a Cauliflower. Now that summer is here: I'm getting 4 eggs a day. The greens are starting to perform again. It's Quiche and…
