Joel Salatin Workshop highlights

What to do with your tumeric?


TUmeric naturally dies down in winter. It's deciduous perennial like ginger.

 I have been bandicooting my tumeric since the leaves started to yellow, but it's after all the nutrition has been trasnferred fromthe leaves into the rhizomes that the flavour really intensifies  and the rhizomes fatten up. They are the storage vessels for the next seasons growth, so the plant concentrates carbs in these storage vessels.

Look what I adopted on the weekend :)

I adopted these two adorable little creatures on the weekend.  We had an old hutch so dusted it off and it was ready to go.  We have also made a small (crow proof) pen that we are going to put them in during the day so they can he keep the grass down a little in our orchard, our plan is to move it around daily, hopefully it may cut down on a little of the mowing.
