What's happening in my garden

Hi Everyone,

I've had a wonderful weekend catching up with people and talking about gardens - 2 of my favorite things.  My friend has moved back from Sydney and I dragged her to the Brisbane Plant Collectors Fair where I picked up blue hippeastrum, peach ground orchid and a japanese mountain raspberry "Rubus corchorifolius".

Then today, it was Sophie's…

Glorious days in May

These are the best days in the year for gardening, the best time to live in Brisbane in my opinion.  Less pests and  less sweat but the dense winter shade is the main challenge I face in this garden built around a two storey house with trees also blocking the low winter sun in the northeast.  I have to plant in different beds just to get enough sunshine.

This month I will start in the front garden so that I can show off the tall tutuers that my son, Wil, made me.  I wanted something…

Capturing the garden going about its everyday business...

It always seem to happen that I can never capture the garden in a photograph.

It's messy and jungle-like and green merges into green so that it is always hard to distinguish the species of plants one from t'other.

But I've tried...

Captured en route to…

Roger's May report- Growing anti Inflammatory plants , etc.

With the weather now much more bearable, it is becoming a real pleasure to get out in the garden and come out of summer hibernation. A holiday in Tasmania in late summer saw us enjoy a few weeks of much cooler weather, but on return, it had obviously rained quite a bit while we were away and the rampant growth everywhere has/is taking a lot of work to get under control again.

The weedy TRAD has grown like Topsy and covers a lot of ground. It will take all of the cooler months to clear…

My Mate Jerry's house.

My children call me a stalker.  Is it wrong that I got a little bit star struck today when the great man himself was there in his garden and I got to speak to him, if only for a minute.  That makes us "mates" right?  :)

I got there at 9.10, by the time I left at 10 am, the crowds had built up.  This path runs along the width of the house and has paths leading the way around his garden.…

May 2018 - Long weekends and Those blasted cockroaches

Hi Everyone,

Don't you just love long weekends?  That extra day makes all the difference.  Saturdays get used for housework, shopping and cleaning, Sunday we had a family day and I got out there in the afternoon and watered everything so I could start in the garden with what I wanted to do.  I really need to go part time at work.  Four days per week would be perfect,  but you know... Money.

I needed to get quite a lot done.  I had to respray all the citrus with lime…

My new garden 'plan' -- green aspirations in motion with snakes and ladders, Vetiver and stuff.

Now that the mulch has settled and the seedlings are tucked up in their beds I can play the lord of the manor -- and tweak my vista.

Herein is an exposé of the underlying principles that my good self have concocted within the juicy confines of my fertile brain.

The Story So Far

My old garden was…

It's a jungle out there! My garden in March 2018.

With the amazing season of rain we've had (plus several weeks of full time work) I've been finding it hard to keep up outside. The growth is rampant! My tanks are full and I've had little call to use them. …
