It was the most amazing day for a visit to Daley's. I managed to drag my butt out of bed at 5:15 and was on the road by 5:45 to start the journey. Google maps told me it would be 2hrs and 15 min via lions road. "Perfect" I thought. Macca's stop for coffee, toilet break when I'm almost there because of said coffee and I would still arrive at 9 am (You read that correctly and I can add up -Stupid daylight savings time). Plenty of time for me to stop in Kyogle and grab something to eat and…Continue
This year I am doing well with eggs. I'm getting a dozen quail eggs every second day (and almost 20 of them aren't old enough to lay yet!) I'm also freezing processed male quails now and currently have 5 vacuumed sealed ready to cook. I might even have a crack at smoking one. The chickens are still producing 2 or 3 eggs a day. If I could keep a rooster, my poultry could go "off grid."…Continue

What a glorious weekend. I got there at 8am and had a lovely wander around while it was not crowded. Of course, I had to stop at Grandma’s cottage garden where I picked up 3 more (small) salvias - Denver, jitterbug, cupie doll and a dwarf Shantae daisy to go in the front garden that I just cleaned up…Continue
I've managed to get in 7 hours of good gardening last weekend and feel like I've achieved a lot. Vegie wise, I planted out into seedling punnets some broccoli, beetroot, lettuce and spinach. Direct sowed some bush beans and dwarf peas. I lost all but 2 of the beetroots I planted 2 weeks ago - I need to learn my lesson and just not buy them as seedlings. I never have any luck with those but when I make my own seedlings to transplant, I never have a drama???…Continue
January 2018 Harvest:
3kg sweet potato
2 Cherry tomatoes
1 red bell chilli
2 small cabbages
OMG the garden is suffering. Infested with fruit fly and crickets! Given up planting anything new for the moment - the zukes and toms went in too late and shouldn't have bothered. …Continue
