My first blog ~ Autumn Garden

I've been meaning to post for a while, but kept procrastinating ~

Not much going on with the garden ~ A volunteer cherry tomato started fruiting in the front yard, but the green grape I sow with seeds from Fiona didn’t grow anymore from since it was 2 cm high… and now yellowing… now what did I do? ^^ Probably most likely what I didn’t do though… >__< .. I’ve sprayed some diluted seasol on them today…

The thing to do with pineapples

I'm afraid that our chickens are completely stupid fluff-brains. Serves me right for getting designer chickens. I pulled the sunflower stalks and put them in their pen. They sit on them, but don't eat them. So I pulled the seeds out of the flowerhead and made interested noises so they would realise they could eat them. Nope. I give them caterpillars (we now have corn ear worm) and it takes 5 minutes for them to realise that there is a tasty… Continue

Garden coming to life!

Well I'm finally starting to see the fruits of my labour in the garden. My very lovely neighbours saw me out digging around and offered me a heap of beautiful compost. It went straight into the veggie patch which I was about to sow my autumn seeds in. I have had some success already after only a week. The radishes have all sprouted (so reliable - I love them!!), All the pak choy has sprouted and one corn. The Big Crunch

I think the start of 2009 marked the beginning of the big crunch. Back in the seventies we were speculating on how we needed to get back to a grass roots lifestyle in order to prepare ourselves for when things go pear shaped on planet earth. The best thing we can do is to grow and produce as much of our own food as we can.
