The Competition.... The Training.....The Challenge

So I couldn't resist another short post before I get on the plane today at 2pm.

Just some links to satisfy the thirst (I never thought I would get 14 views in one day!)

The Competition

An invitation only (but only after many competitions before) for the best bakers in the world. Everything you need to know is on the website. The competition is held as part…

7 weeks in Belgium and France..... a journey of a lifetime!

In December 2013, a good friend and champion baker, Brett Noy of Uncle Bob's Bakery, posed a question to me that was out of the blue, and the opportunity of a lifetime....

"Would you consider accompanying me to Europe to assist me with my preparations for the World Bakery Cup?"

My first instinct was to think of my darling wife - my soulmate and the one with whom I do everything - inseparable....

I said " it would be wholly up to my wife as to whether is…

Dragon Fruit from Flower to Spoon

Update to Dragon Fruit blog ...

A couple of days ago, the up-to-then green developing fruit suddenly started to colour. I missed taking a pic.

Today I picked the fruit - and it should have been cut rather than twisted off the stem because I damaged the stem end in the process. PS: 4 March 2014 - since found that checking the softness of the stem indicates ripeness. When fully ripe, the…

Tour of the fruit trees

I went to Lissa's garden visit today and had a wonderful time.  I was chatting to some lovely ladies (Karen was one but as I'm hopeless with names, I forget the other names -> please comment below so I can remember :) and started talking about my fruit trees.  So here is a tour of my garden for you guys to have a peak at.

This is the view from my front balcony.  From the left lower corner, you can see my grape happily growing away - planted about 2 months ago.  The multigraft…

Coconuts and the Banana Circle (without Bananas)

Or the promise of anyway.

Thanks to Steve who organised the purchase and to Lissa who collected them for me, I now have new plants to play with.

Two Golden Dwarf Coconuts are now ensconced in our 'Banana Circle' which plays host to 3 Paw Paws, 1 Lemonade and now the Coconuts, Rosemary and Chives.

We never did dig it out the full metre - about half that if we're lucky. I can see the value of a full-sized hole then the berm would be a decent size. As it is the berm is only…

A Tail of Sadness and Hope

To be honest, I've put off doing this blog.  I know people have noticed that I've gone a bit quiet of late.  So, I reckon it's finally time for this tragic tale to be told.  As much as it is full of sadness, it is also full of hope and promise.  Early in the new year is a good time for the post.

The Sad Tail

I'm not used to little dogs.  For the last 25 years, I've only owned a German Shepherd and my two Husky dogs.  Of course, when My Rozie and I got…

"It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it."

One year on and my little gardens doing great! Just wish it'll rain a bit more soon...

Thanks to all you BLF members for all your shared knowledge throughout 2013. Keep it coming!

I am so impressed at the rate of reproduction in my compost bin. I went to the time-warp shop (aka Bunnings) and got most of the things I need to build a new BSFL farm.

I am following this blog

It's a shame this guy does not deliver to Australia because I certainly spent more the $68 and still forgot a few things. The velcro alone was…
