About me:
One of my big things is making a place for parents or grandparents to bring their children to have fun in the garden. Gardening is fun and inspirational, and seeing my grandchild grab tasty leaves and have a feed is fun and VERY rewarding!!!!
I and started gardening only a few years ago because my lawn was overrun with bindis.(I figured even a beginner would make an improvement on bindis)!. Now 3 years on I have very little lawn to my great delight and constant amazement!
I often consider myself a toddler in the garden, everything is so exciting!! (except when it isn't lol)
I like to grow edibles and succulents, (at least one of which is actually edible!). I am not a traditional vegetable gardener.. I tend to let things go to seed and come up again.. that is my style at this stage... so i manage weeds by feeding them to my guinea pigs or put them in juices or stews.
I don't know much but am happy to share what I have learned (which is actually quite a lot!!) and I have so much more to learn!! and I always love to learn from other people's knowledge and experience.
I keen to have people come here regularly if there are interested, with children or without.
Yes, I have more than I can handle here, and would love some help!
I am really looking forward to visiting other people's gardens too!
I have ticked that I can offer services in my sign up. the service is that I am happy to offer babysitting in my garden while you go do what ever you need to do for an hour or so.. that would be for a fee though. I have a blue card and am a mum of 7 grown children and 7 grandchildren
I am currently involved with the following community gardens and groups:
I'm not really involved as such but visit Northey street city farm occasionally on a Sunday and ask Crystal heaps of questions. I also am friends with Priscilla from Happy Farmers there and she answers my questions about edible weeds. I have been meaning to join BOGI but I haven't. done that yet! (I had car troubles the day of the last fair!)
I am interested in:
I want to inspire others to get going in the garden and produce and be amazed at the prolific nature of the soil and seeds, especially children, as they need to learn this even more in this industrialized harmful chemical world.
Growing greens.. easy greens. Suriname spinach, Okinawa spinach, Malabar spinach, cranberry hibiscus, sweet potato leaves etc I want to be a great gardener, or rather, facilitate a great garden on my suburban block.....
and guess what else.. i am committed to the journey of turning my 50,000 litre pool into a swimming pond. that is some journey!! the fish love it so far.. donations of fish are welcome if yours have outgrown your space!!
I can offer (you can't offer too much or too little - we don't mind)

Good Afternoon Sharan, Welcome to Brisbane Local Foods (BLF). You sound like just the type of member we need. We all love our gardens on this site and look forward to seeing you at one of our GV's.

Here at the top of the page, you will find many GROUPS to join. One is the GARDEN VISITS, 2017 GARDEN VISITS CALENDAR here. I am sure you would enjoy visiting our member’s gardens. We have members who grow many different kinds of Gardens, Permaculture, Aquaculture, Wicking Beds, Traditional and many more. The GV's are usually held once a month. At the GV's we share cuttings, plants, produce, seeds, knowledge as well as a good chat and a lovely Homemade Morning Teas.

We have many subjects of interest, if you have any questions I am sure we would have a member or site available to answer that question.

You may like to go into your page and change the Pea Leaf Avatar for one of your own, it makes it a little more personal and as soon as we see your own Avatar we know who it is. Please enjoy BLF…..

Vetiver grass helps to stabilise soil and protects it against erosion.  It can protect against pests and weeds. Vetiver is also used as animal feed. (Wiki.)
