Basically I found that aromatic plants are generally good for repelling pests, but some will secret chemicals which inhabit growth of other plants. I've done some research on companion planting online before and have put together a list of plants I…

Companion planting confuses the pests because their favourite plants are camouflaged in smell by so many other vege and herb smells. Use a companion guide chart, because you can hinder the growth of some veges by planting non-compatible herbs nearby…

Hi Pree, I'm an avid companion planter and organised the last two beds I planted to be completely companion planted. I think I may be reaping some rewards from it too! I use the website: http://www.ghorganics.com/page2.html#ALFALFA: as I find it has…

It looks like I don't have a borer in my lemon branches after all - it may be a Gall Wasp infection...

Thanks for the response Pree ... I know what you mean about parts of this forum which are not so easily seen as the forum posts. Bitofa pest, in a way. Now if you'd like to PM me via this forum, we can swop email addresses and phone numbers so it's not available for the rest of the internet to read. I'll start the ball rolling and PM you that way it's simpler to reply to a PM until you get used to it. E

This comment thing is something I forget to look for - sorry for the delay. North Lakes? :-O Ye godz, a local! You're the closest so far! Any chance of a natter over a coffee anytime soon? Send a PM to me on this forum, perhaps? If we're 'friends' here and I think we are ... it's simpler to send a PM to a friend. E

Companion Planting and Care of Citrus Plants

I am very interested in the art of companion planting in vege patches to reduce pest problems with food producing plants. It is my aim to have a totally organic garden without using pesticides, or at least as far as possible.

Plants like garlic chives, coriander and sweet basil are said to be good plants for deterring pests. I put this theory to the test in my own patch where I have planted rocket and long climbing beans along with these super plants. Tomato plants are said to have natural pest… Continue

Starting my journey on the path to organic home-grown vegetables

I have just been lucky enough to move into our first "own home" - my husband and I, that is. Upon walking into the house, my heart warmed when I saw glimples of fruiting lemons and camquat trees from our kitchen window! I have always wanted my own garden, and I was so excited to see what it was and what we could make of it.

I ventured through the wooden gate leading into the garden upon which a carved wooden sign hung simply saying "welcome". The gate was attached to a wooden frame upon which r… Continue
