The daikon looks great. I used grow them in Sydney; a Malaysian friend cooked something delicious with them in a beef stew but I never got the recipe :(

I've had some huge grasshoppers around this year too. Just been getting them manually, but they can be pretty intimidating!

Wow, what a title! "DirtGirlWorld" - imagine the brainstorming session they must have had to arrive at that one!

Out of curiosity, I searched on this and found some sites discussing the growing of lemongrass from seed: http://www.ehow.com/how_5057526_grow-lemon-grass-seed.html It sounds way too hard; keeping it at a specific temperature for up to 40 days jus...

I've never seen it seed either; definitely should be propagated by division - I don't think there would be any point in trying to raise it from seed.

What a shame, oh well I found last year nothing eventuated until really late anyway. We have a few self seeders along the back fence but think I will pull them out as it is too early to not mow the lawn and I already planted ginger there.

Unfortunately the pumpkin seeds didn't germinate - so I decided to use the space to grow more useful stuff.

To mick,

yeah consumerist culture is what I mean about imperialism or cultural hegemony. It is blocking our connection with fundamental life forces. Thanks for listening to my music! I just got back in brisbane and I will be trying to get some gigs soon! It is great having an active network for permaculture in Brisbane!

Sorry to hear that, hope you can make it... there are ducks to feed and playgrounds for the kids.

Not all of them have died yet, I think it is probably too hot in summer where I planted them and didn't help that they get forgotten about when watering them as they are outside the fence where the cars are parked by themselves. I will keep trying and have some mushroom compost to dig in and try to improve the sandy soil there. I might try again with some that aren't sticks this year...

I'll be interested in hearing how the Keriberry goes - I have never heard of it!

Will you be at the December meet on Saturday? I have a couple of 'Ground Cherry Aunt Molly' in pots that are very small still but might be a good one for you to try. I din't get any up last year and thought the seeds were duds but this year got heaps and instead of thinning all have potted up. They take *ages* to germinate but are now growing well in the garden - only about an inch high at the moment.
