"I had a quick look Kellie. They make some good points but they seem to be a little particular with how they manage gardening e.g. don't let chooks in the garden. Thanks for the post though. It's always good…"
I am a qualified environmental scientist and environmental health officer, and I worked as a medical nutrition assistant in a hospital for 9 years. I am single parent to 3 teenage sons and 2 dogs. I am a committed volunteer in humanitarianism and disaster resilience and response. I also support the arts and grass roots community activities. I am new to Brisbane and very happy to call it home as I am here for long term career.
I am currently involved with the following community gardens and groups:
My new job is as Program Officer in Waste Minimisation and my colleagues and I are very passionate about reducing food waste and reducing landfill. Though I request to join this group as an individual, not through my work, I can provide access to information that may help the members. My colleagues do a lot of community education in worm farming, composting and reducing waste and they support many community garden initiatives around Brisbane. I am new in the job and new to Brisbane, have only lived here for 2 weeks. But in Cairns for 9 years I was very involved in community groups doing environmental advocacy, climate change mitigation and humanitarian work with not for profit groups and charities that feed the homeless and respond to disasters.
I am interested in:
Sustainability, Community wellbeing, climate change mitigation, disaster planning and response, environmental protection, healthy living, nutrition.
I can offer (you can't offer too much or too little - we don't mind)
Good Evening Kellie, Welcome to Brisbane Local Foods (BLF). Reading your Profile, I am sure you will prove to be a big asset to the BLF community. Hope you come to love Brissy as much as I do.
Here at the top of the page, you will find many GROUPS to join. One is the GARDEN VISITS, 2017 GARDEN VISITS CALENDAR here. I am sure you would enjoy visiting our member’s gardens. We have members who grow many different kinds of Gardens, Permaculture, Aquaculture, Wicking Beds, Traditional and many more. The GV's are usually held once a month. At the GV's we share cuttings, plants, produce, seeds, knowledge as well as a good chat and a lovely Homemade Morning Teas.
We have many subjects of interest, if you have any questions I am sure we would have a member or site available to answer that question.
You may like to go into your page and change the Pea Leaf Avatar for one of your own, it makes it a little more personal and as soon as we see your own Avatar we know who it is. Please enjoy BLF…..
Please support our Brisbane Local Food community. Donations can be made directly to Andy's paypal account. These are in Australian dollars. Donations of $5 and above will be gratefully received and used only to pay for BLF web-hosting. A donation of $25 will pay to host the site for a calendar month!
