Andrew, This system has a mini bell syphon, the smallest auto-syphon I've ever seen. It floods each level above the level of the bell, then releases the water to the next level. Its a good flood clean, as well as irrigation. You can pull the bell pug off and clean very easily. I got it from Bunnings, next to the seeds.

Certainly works well.  Now I'm thinking about ways to grow sprouts....
