Oh, and I would go out every morning and black bag the fallen fruit.
I bagged literally 100's of kgs of ruined fruit each season. Early on, no problems, but later nothing but FF damage to the entire crop. I'm glad you get some good fruit :)
Hi Lissa, i checked and found just 1 larvae in this batch, i think this time of year they not very active as temperatures have been cool so the fruit did ok. I have been hit before though! Ive picked up the fallen fruit just in case and composted it, dont want a future problem. Bagging fruit from an early stage is an effective organic control i believe you might try to at least save some.
Very nice! I had incredible trouble with Fruit Fly with my Carambola but it doesn't sound like they bother you at Wynnum.
Oh Hazel, What a harvest, I do wish you lived next to me, but we live n the way to Ipswich. I would love to try your favourite Chutney recipe as we love our Curries. Have just made a batch of Paw Paw and Chilli Chutney and Green Paw Paw Chutney with excess from the garden. Can't wait to see your garden.
Christa have one tree but the neghbours keep giving us some in exchage for pumpkins passionfruit tc .
What a lovely harvest Hazel, and what a handy inherited tree, they do fruit with abundance. The avocado fruit look good as well.
Mary-Ann, how can you have an excess of black sapote, there is never enough. You must have a few varieties.
I dont know how old the tree is, i inherited it, i imagine a good few years: its big and produces hundreds of fruit at least 2x a year, without any care and attention!
Im sorry im not in your area mary-ann, what lovely things to have too much of! I have now turned the starfruit into my fave indian chutney recipe - http://maayeka.com/2013/11/kamrakh-mirch-ki-laungi.html (if anyone has a go at this i suggest dont add any water)
