Hi Christa,  Have had mine for about 2 weeks and I have had them sitting in my courtyard - they hadn't been watered until today (put them out in the rain).  Am very nervous about them as every other orchid I have had has died on me.

Cheryl, I don't know if it is a food plant. It is the plant up in the right top corner of the photo. It is the easiest orchid to grow in my books, even easier than the king orchid behind it on the tree.  It was started with about 3 or 4 pieces of stems and roots placed in a strong wire basket with some thin coir and just with some charcoal or orchid mix or moss.  It will increase in size each year and will flower from new parts.   It gets watered when I remember about once a month, and it does collect all the leaves that drop from the Poinciana tree. You could throw in dried grass clippings into the centre if you wished.   This one would be about 10-15 years old, and needs very heavy gauge wire to hold it up. It grows in dappled light under the tree and gets more sun naturally when the tree  is deciduous.  We do throw our banana peels into the centre of the plants.

I've just got a couple of these, would appreciate any advice on how to keep them alive.

Otherwise known as Dancing Lady? Mine not doing so well this year. Getting a bit smothered with growth from other plants.

This one is almost 3 metres wide when flowering.  It loves growing under the poinciana tree.

Oncidiums really are rather gorgeous - but then have you ever seen an orchid you didn't like? Just some are more wonderful than others ;-)
