By the seaside, we have been busy.
Seaside Vetiver is a niche waiting to happen.
All local native species except Cotton trees(the wonderful Hibiscus tiliaceus),Pandanus, mangroves and coastal /sawtooth banksias are shallow rooted. So they fall over easily or , in the case of ground covers,get washed away or covered in sand.
Vetiver which is salt tolerant puts down roots over 2 metres deep.
This is what we seek to prove...Can Vetiver defend the coast against the sea so that native Wallum species can re-occupy the shoreline recovered?
