Growing local

I'm trying to grow potatoes vertically in 20 liter buckets. The brown pots are tomatoes.

I hadn't seen that Dianne!  I just assumed mine would hang okay.  Hmmm... yet another experiment to try.

I love the idea of the tomatoes growing vertically, have you seen the new one that the big B place have. They are tomatoes specially bred for hanging baskets etc.. These buckets are going to get mighty heavy when they are full of potatoes.

At the botanic garden workshop, we were told that potatoes grown in bags don't do so well, unless you want chats. This was indeed my experience, though grateful for the yummy ones we got. I am trialling the potato towers. I will post a pic.

That's how Lyle grew them around the time of this TALK. As Jeff mentions, it may be getting a little hot soon to be trying this method but nothing lost by trying! Depends on where you hang the buckets too.

The problem with spuds in pots in Brisbane may be the temperature  getting to hot and pots will heat up quickly.
