Growing local

Accidental addition to garden that has proved to be one of our most productive plants. We pick the fruit green so we don't fight the flying foxes for 'em, leave them on the back deck or any spare bench space in the kitchen and they ripen beautifully.

great picture and good tip for the green paw paw. They can be grated up green for a thai salad as well

They are quite good even when picked with just a touch of yellow and left to ripen. We do this as we are simply too lazy to bag the fruit - and the tree is getting too tall to for me to reach to bag the fruit without a ladder (see previous reason for not bagging the fruit..!). Admittedly they would taste even better if left on the tree at least another week but it's a compromise between losing the paw paws to the fruit bats and being bothered to put bags on the tree....

How do you know when to pick them? I imagine if you pick them too early they won't ripen.
