Does it take 2 jars high Andrew, by the way those green or coloured glass jars are preserving not pressure canning jars. They are great for storage and preserves and pretty.
With pressure canning, it is preferable to use jars without lead in them. The USA jars with double lids are ok. Some other italion and french brands are leadfree.
Another irrelavent note is, the white plain plates etc from Corelle are lead free also. They are one of the few lots that are free of lead. If you use a dishwasher a lot, over time, it may be a bit suspect.
I really like your presto 20 litre Pressure Canner.
It's a Presto by Ball Mason. It's 20 litres so it is big. I don't find it too heavy though... mind you, I haven't dealt with it full.
Andrew is it a Presto brand, I was going to buy an All American but it is heavy with all the pressure catches on the sides of it, they have no rubber seals. The only one I can get is about $900 and it is too big for me.
The reason I shelled out for this was because pressure canning is the only real safe way of preserving non-acidic food. Water baths just can't get hot enough (USDA approved Doug!). This one is American and made by Ball Mason (Christa). It comes with a good set of recipes for meats which is what I was really wanting to preserve outside of a freezer (mostly meat Dianne, but I'll do all my preserving in it now that I have it). It's a bloody bottler! (pun intended).
Congrads Andy, I know how much you wanted one. I don't even want to know what you are going to do with it. But have fun bottling. I may have to borrow it it when the tomatoes get very very cheap...
Did you manage to get one of Oz Farmers new shipment, Andrew. I thought about it for a little while. That will be great for bottling your quail meat etc.
