Growing local

At Craig's Garden Visit on Saturday 6th July, I will have 4 pieces of a Red Dragon Fruit plant to give away free. First in first served.

There is a large collection of Green Harvest Detroit Beetroot seeds to give away. Bring a packet or envelope if you want some (or you can have all). Free, first in first served.

Oh, I would love some of the Dragon fruit please...will have to make sure I get there on time!

My cutting is well over a meter tall now...with about 6 segmentations. When do they start to fold over and grow fruit? I have mine growing up our power pole and know I need to make a shelf for it to grow out on, just not sure when to do it!

Ideally they like to be about 6ft from the ground before they bend over. Mine are short of that and the fruit-bearing sections are very close to the ground making checking them tricky.

Whatever you make, have it very sturdy. The stems are not flexible but they are very heavy and armed with spikes. Not long spikes, but sharp ones.

There's a couple of blogs on this forum about Dragon Fruit which might help answer some questions. Although I find the more I grow them, the more questions I have!
