SEED & FRUIT TREE SITES, TRAINING, GROUPS, BEES AND FOOD SITES

Started by Lissa in Blogs and transferred to Groups to help us find it again and again ...

"I'm a list maker.

"I like to gather information together in one spot so I don't have to keep hunting it down or scratch my head wondering where I read something and not being able to find it again. And I like to share, so please feel free to use this list of links or recommend more sites to be added as it's a continuous work in progress.

"It is up to you to decide if you wish to deal with any of the companies, this is not a recommendation, just a list.

"Share any comments on your experiences with various companies, such as postage (good, bad), packaging (good, bad), viability of product......you get the picture :)"

Elaine - here's another for your list courtesy of Peggy in Toowoomba:

Nice one Karen, thank you for sharing. They seem to do smaller packets of seed for $1 which is sensible.

www.boondieseeds.com.au are based in queensland, have a good range of heritage seeds at good prices and are prompt in processing orders. i recommend them. :)

Good to hear that, Gay. Must be around 15 years since I went to Turners - very pleased that they are keeping up their standards!

Keep us posted on what you bought. We always like to know what others are doing especially our newly-joined members.

Thanks for the recommendations for Turners Garden Centre at Rochedale. They had the coffee trees I had been looking for. Great place, with lots of healthy fruit trees that aren't readily available elsewhere. I'll be going back for some of them!

Here's another one to add to your list under Training Elaine. Australian Organic Schools.

Elaine - Eden Seeds / Select Organics have a new website combining both.

Here's some more to add to your list Elaine (some you might already have). Scroll down the list for the Australian sites:

Elaine you might want to add http://www.airportnursery.com.au/ to your list. Belongs to Jamie, one of our new members.

They sound really good. Pity my yard is already chocka or I would be in the car and out there already for a look ;)

Using the Site, Sharing and Getting Involved

POSTING PHOTOS

We love your garden pics! Just be sure to remove the location information from your picture if you're sharing photos from your IPhone to avoid sending your details out to the world wide web. To find out how to do this, click here.

USING THE FORUM
Note that on the main page only the most recent discussion activity is displayed.

If you want to explore all of the forum, go to http://brisbanelocalfood.ning.com/forum or select Forum in the red menu bar which runs across the top of the home page.

Choose to view by category (e.g. Plant and Seed Varieties, Books and Movies) or by most recent/ popular etc - use view drop down at top right of page.

If you wish to follow a discussion (you'll be notified of replies) select <Follow> at the extreme bottom right of the relevant discussion.

Some good discussions/ answers have been moved over into the FAQ forum topic for ease of reference.

SEARCHING FOR CONTENT

Ning provides a search engine for the entire BLF site (extreme top right in the dark green bar).

Each part of the website can also be searched separately. Navigate to the particular area (was it a photo, a discussion, a blog?) using the red menu on the top of the home page. Then search within that section, using the search bar at top left in the white part of the page. This will narrow your search results markedly.

BLOGS

The blog (web-log) section is best for diary-style posts covering multiple topics - like what you've been up to in your own garden. The discussion forum is better for single topics and where other people can build on what you've said.

Please use the discussion forum or message function where you can. People are less likely to find your topic in future when browsing if it's in the blog section.

Please try to post blogs once a week or less (save it up and post all at once!), to maximise the air time on the main page for other blog posters. Love it, but we have to share the space :)

TAGS
When you start a discussion or a blog, adding some key words in the "add tags" field will help other people to find the content they're looking for later on (using the search engine).

If in doubt just ask or post anyway! :)
