Welcome aboard Fiona! I spend a fair bit of time on the train each day so will try and look through my gardening books to see what info and any hints and tips I can come up with before the BSS meeting this weekend.

This is fantastic! I am so pleased to have stumbled across your virtual community! My parents grow heirloom tomatoes, and save their seed, so I know how to save tomato seeds - but that is about it. Otherwise, I am just really keen to get my garden soil in the best condition to grow some fruit and vege.

I live in a townhouse, so my garden is very shaded with very poor soil (clay, builders rubble, and acid "scrub" soil) - my place backs on to a patch of scrub, and even the native plants find it hard to flourish! But I am persevering.

I have a very skinny budget, so I am going slow on the soil conditioning. My worm farm and cold open compost is going ok, but I just wish the worms ate more, and faster!

In the meantime, I am thinking about joining the local Beelarong Community Garden to grow some fruit and vege. I look forward to reading more about saving seeds. And, I am very interested to meet you on 31 January. Count me in...

Yay, I beat the fruit flies and managed to harvest 2 isralei ha-ogen rockmelons, will bring some seed to share on 31st - only took individually bagging each individual fruit and still losing 50% ;)

Let me know if anyone wants some Okra, I will try and pot some up for the meeting. It seems perfect for our climate and so far has been hassle free to grow. I had never tried it before but it was yummy in a stir fry.

I will bring my seeds, and hopefully we won't be rained out before I get a chance to share some... lol

Hi Trinette, I would like to give them a try if you still have spare of these Malabar Spinach ~

Hi guys, I just found lots of little Malabar Spinach seedlings coming up in my garden, if anyone would like any let me know before I get rid of them. Even if I keep them potted till our next meeting?

Thanks again to all those that were able to attend this first meeting, it was a great opportunity to meet each other. Life is pretty hectic but I am hoping to get a newsletter out soon.

It was nice meeting you all, and I too have to thank Donna and Scarlett for their generosity. Too bad the meeting was cut short by the storm, but it made it a memorable first meeting. Donna gave me ideas of what to share in our next meeting, as I’ve always have dilemma about how much seeds to sow, because sowing too little, then I won’t get enough plants if the germination’s bad, but if the germination’s good, I am reluctant to thin them out thinking it’s such a waste. ^^” Now I know I can give them to good homes in our Brisbane seed savers’ meetings :)
