I bought a Wampi tree, and a Himalayan Magnolia from Forbidden Fruits at the BOGI fair last year. Planted the Magnolia by the fence where our neighbor abandoned their huge satellite dish pointing towards us against their side of the fence hoping it would grow and bush up quickly to cover it up. The Wampi Tree is still in the pot… haven’t decided where to put it yet… tried to find some info about it online, but there’s really not much.. only that they fruits on the tip of branches, so I probably shouldn’t prune it.. that means I'll have to find a spot where it could grow to its natural size… maybe…

I don’t plan on growing the ice-cream bean tree unless I move to acreage as it suppose to be huge, but I’d love to taste it ~ It's much closer if there's a group in Carindale or Tingalpa

We have been talking about going to http://www.forbiddenfruitsnursery.com/ which seems to be in the same sort of area. If you are interested in fruit trees, there is a couple I met at BOGI who run a subtropical fruit tree group (Carindale or Tingalpa have to look up their card) and sometimes let groups visit, we could see if they are available for a BSS meeting.

I had an ice cream bean tree but was told they are finicky and very big trees , so decided to get rid of it for a smaller tree. In hindsight, should have mad up my own mind as I read that black sapote are yukky but I recently tasted it and I think it does taste like 'chocolate pudding'!

Yeah, it is a fair way down, so it would have to be a Day Trip.. the downside is the entry fee's not cheap..

If you look at the Calendar (http://www.tropicalfruitworld.com.au/events/), the 20th row is ice-cream bean, in season from February to April.. suppose to taste like vanilla ice-cream ~

Great idea Florence - I drive past quite often on road trips south and have never had the chance to do in. If it doesn't suit everyone to meet there for a meeting I would be keen to go anyway, even if it was just a couple of us.

I was browsing the Internet for fruit tree nurseries in South East Queensland and came across this website ~

http://www.tropicalfruitworld.com.au/

Do you think this would make a good day trip for the seed savers meeting? I’d love to try some ice-cream beans, and check out their gardens ~

I will bring some seeds for you to Chris's open morning, might be a bit late for pumpkins and melons but at least you will have them for next year!
